Technical Assistance for Cooperation with Civil Society in the Field of Migration and International Protection
Turkey is a hub as well as a transit country for immigration and emigration, and in recent years has seen a dramatic rise in the number of migrants. This rise in numbers has created an equally large rise in demand of services to support and protect the migrants. Most of these services are being provided by the Turkish authorities and some by the international community, but increasingly the Turkish public sector is cooperating with organised civil society to meet the demands. Accordingly, an increasing amount of CSOs are taking a role in the field of migration, and these CSOs seek support to build their own capacities.
Within this framework, the Republic of Turkey and the European Union co-finances “
Technical Assistance for Cooperation with Civil Society in the Field of Migration and International Protection” Project. This technical assistance is being provided by a consortium which includes Eurasia Social Change, and which is led by International Consulting Expertise (ICE EEIG) in partnership with FCG Sweden, and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
The project aims to enhance the technical knowledge and capacity of CSOs to contribute to policy and decision-making in the field of migration, and to strengthen efficient network building amongst CSOs. The project also aims at improving the environment for dialogue between civil society and public authorities on migration.
Eurasia Social Change undertook a mapping exercise to identify CSOs throughout Turkey who are working with migrants or providing assistance in terms of protection and humanitarian aid for migrants. The mapping exercise included a diverse range of organisations, from large to small, from rural to urban, international, national and local. In addition to the mapping, Eurasia Social Change’s experts implemented a Capacity Assessment of the CSOs in order to identify specific and urgent needs that could be addressed through the training programme of the project.
As a result of training needs analysis, experts organized 25 training modules and their delivery in cooperation with consortium partners, with more than 750 CSOs representatives benefitting. The training modules include sessions on:
